ARTISTIC BIOGRAPHY
Mar Pino-Charlez is a versatile Catalan soprano dedicated to energising classical repertoire through a unique blend of intellectual rigor and emotional storytelling. Noted for her compelling interpretations of the Romantic period and her commitment to contemporary premieres, her artistry is defined by a rare combination of technical precision and expressive depth. Her graduation with honors from the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona was achieved alongside an academic degree in Physics, reflecting a disciplined approach to music that marries technical precision with artistic intuition.
Currently based in the Netherlands, Mar is pursuing a masters program at the Conservatory of Maastricht with teacher Susanne Schimmack. This season, she joins the prestigious Nederlands Kamerkoor in their programme NXT, a significant step in her professional development within the European choral and ensemble scene.
Mar’s recent stage highlights include a captivating portrayal of Governess in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, conducted by Jac van Steen, and the role of Saffo with the Amsterdam Opera Choir. Her performance career has taken her to stages across Catalonia, Italy, and the Netherlands, where she has been recognized for her adaptability in works by Puccini, Strauss, and Britten, as well as collaborations with contemporary composers such as Kristin Nordeval and Samuel D. Loveless.
Her vocal journey began at age 14, informed by an extensive earlier background in violin and choral singing. She refined her craft under the mentorship of Carmen Bustamante in Barcelona and later at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague with Rita Dams and Chelsea Bonagura. Her foundational years were marked by participation in elite ensembles, including the Catalan Youth Choir and Cor Bruckner Barcelona.
